What To Expect During Your First Physical Therapy Session
If you deal with chronic pain from an illness, medical condition, injury, or surgery, you may benefit from physical therapy in Las Cruces NM. Physical therapy can also be useful for improving balance. Physical therapy aims to improve your quality of life, prevent future injuries, and improve your range of motion.
Your First Physical Therapy Appointment
The first time you come to physical therapy is an opportunity for us to get to you better and learn your goals for treatment. You can expect the physical therapist assigned to you to do the following:
- Ask several questions about your health history
- Test your flexibility and muscle strength
- Provide a diagnosis in addition to the one given by your doctor, if applicable
- Create a treatment plan for your sessions together and strengthening exercises you can do at home.
- Instruct you on how to complete each exercise
After your first appointment, most of your sessions will consist of completing each physical therapy exercise while your therapist supervises. The intensity of your exercises will increase as you demonstrate proficiency and increased strength with your previous exercises.
Our Approach to Physical Therapy
Led by Mark Figueroa, a physical therapist and the owner of Del Valle Physical Therapy & Hand Therapy, our physical therapists use an evidence-based approach with each patient. Besides holding a master’s or doctorate degree in the field, each member of our team receives advanced training using the North American Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy model. Engaging in this ongoing training enables us to understand the science of movement better as it applies to individualized patient care.
You don’t need a referral to start physical therapy with us. Please reach out today to learn more.
